Judging “The Lace Reader” By Its Covers
Thanks to Rebecca Oliver of the Endeavor Agency, I’ve had the great fortune of selling the publishing rights to “The Lace Reader” to twenty-five publishers around the globe. Most of these foreign editions will be published in 2009. Lately, a few international covers have started showing up in my InBox so I thought I’d share them with you (see the bottom of this post).
What intrigues me is the diversity of imagery and that a few countries have changed the title of the book to better suit their native language.

I like the german and UK covers the best. I think the Korean and Netherlands covers make you think the book is about something totally different than what it really is about. i do like the title Moon Sisters.

Not quite sure I like the Netherlands cover, simply because a bath tub has nothing to do with the story. The German is similar to our’s here… and I really like the Italian and Swedish versions

The picture on the Netherlands cover was also used on the cover of an unconventional ghost story, A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb.

I love the Italian and Swedish covers, even though I still don’t understand why they translated the title, here in Italy…
Anyway, I take this chance to tell you that it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read!!!! Eagerly waiting your next one. Ciao, Gaia.

I agree with Gaia about the title chosen here in Italy: can’t see how lies — or lying people — could match with the plot and the atmosphere of your novel.
But I like the cover graphic very much, maybe more than the original one.
And – last but not least – I think you are a very sensitive writer. I mean, the sense of “here and now” which floats all over the book is very appealing. Thank you for describing how delicate and strong at the same time can women be. – Lorena
